During the Gemini 4 mission, astronaut James McDivitt observed a cylindrical object with a protruding antenna tumbling in orbit. He photographed the object, but the subsequent film analysis was inconclusive. Skeptics argue it was likely the Titan II second stage or other orbital debris, but it remains a highly publicized early spaceflight anomaly. McDivitt himself remained equivocal for the rest of his life, repeatedly saying he saw a real object but declining to attribute it to extraterrestrial origin. The Condon Report (1969) catalogued the case as Case 4 (Gemini IV) and concluded it was probably the orbital second stage, but acknowledged the witness's qualifications and the impossibility of a definitive identification from the surviving evidence.
