San Francisco Bay Area journalist and author whose 1997 book Area 51: The Dreamland Chronicles remains one of the most thorough popular histories of the secret test facility at Groom Lake, Nevada. A Yale graduate, Darlington examined both the military secrecy around the base and the civilian folklore that surrounded it through investigative journalism rather than UFO advocacy.

Background

David Darlington graduated from Yale University in 1974 and established himself as a Bay Area journalist writing for national publications. Area 51: The Dreamland Chronicles (1997) drew on interviews with base workers, aviation enthusiasts who monitored test flights from Freedom Ridge, and government officials to present a balanced account of the facility's history.
