Adamski claimed to have met a Venusian occupant of a flying saucer in the California desert in 1952 and to have subsequently traveled to the Moon and other planets aboard alien spacecraft. His co-authored book Flying Saucers Have Landed (1953) and its sequels were international bestsellers.

Background

George Adamski was born on April 17, 1891, in Bromberg, Poland, and emigrated to the United States before age two. His purported 1952 contact with a Nordic alien he called 'Orthon' near Desert Center, California formed the basis of Flying Saucers Have Landed, co-written with Desmond Leslie. Despite widespread skepticism, Adamski attracted a global following and was received in audience by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. He died on April 23, 1965.
