Interpretive theory

Human-made technology

A significant body of testimony, including from whistleblowers like David Grusch and Luis Elizondo, alleges that some UAP are advanced terrestrial craft developed within deeply classified programs. The 'breakaway civilisation' variant suggests that a network of defence contractors has been reverse-engineering recovered non-human technology since at least the late 1940s, operating outside normal government oversight and congressional funding channels. A separate but related hypothesis considers some sightings to be foreign adversary technology (China, Russia), though no known adversary platform has demonstrated the performance characteristics described in the highest-quality military encounters. Natural atmospheric phenomena (ball lightning, plasmas, sprites) may account for a subset of lower-fidelity sightings. A psychosocial / Jungian reading sits alongside these, treating some encounter reports as products of perception, expectation, and cultural narrative rather than external craft of any kind.
